Introduction:

Physiology is the link between the basic sciences and medicine. The beauty of physiology is that it integrates the individual functions of all the body’s different cells, tissues and organs in to a functional whole, the majestic human body. Indeed, the human body is much more than the sum of its parts, and life relies upon this total function

The undergraduate medical students study the subject of Physiology during their first two years. In Physiology Department of WMC, they are groomed by extensive lectures, tutorials, directed student learning and problem-oriented approach to learning. The laboratory works provide them hands-on observations to experience the physiological phenomena. The latest technology of AD instruments Power lab is also being used to enable the students to meet the international standards.

Physiology department has a galaxy of teachers who remain available to the students for any help they require. The dedicated supporting staff maintains a cordial relationship and extends help to laboratory and departmental functioning. We all work as a team, the essence of Physiology.

Academic Aims and Broad Objectives:

By the end of the first two years of studying Physiology, the student will be able to:

  1. Explain the physical and chemical factors that are responsible for the origin, development and progression of life
  2. Understand homeostasis – the high level of internal bodily control and to describe the network of feedback controls that achieve the necessary balances without which we will be unable to live.
  3. Emphasize the effectiveness and beauty of the body’s homeostatic mechanisms as well as to present their abnormal function in disease
